After fulfilling his military service in Mexico, Simon moved to Chicago, Illinois. There he met his soon to be wife, Hermelinda Rivera, at a Celia Cruz concert. They married on July 11, 1965 in Guadalajara, Mexico. They made their home in Chicago where they had two daughters, Maria Olivia and Irma Leticia. Due to the illness of his father, Pedro Rivera, the family moved to Monterrey, Mexico where they had their last 2 children, Patricia and Francisco Javier. In order to stay close to the family in Monterrey they moved to Houston in 1974.
Once in Houston the family established residence in the 2nd Ward off Canal Street. Simon worked at Brown & Root off Clinton Drive for over 20 years. In August of 1979, through hard work and dedication, the family was able to purchase their current home in Pecan Park where he lived the rest of his life.
He was the patriarch of a large and loving family. His family recently grew through the power of modern technology. Simon was recently reunited with daughter Maria, who had been searching for her father for several years.
