Serita Abatte Auzenne was called home on Saturday, 27 May 2023. She was 94 years old and the mother of five. Serita Abatte was the 3rd child of Stella Kerlegan Abatte and Gabriel Abatte of New Iberia, Louisiana. She married the love of her life - Raymond Auzenne.
Born the daughter of a Louisiana sharecropper, mom worked the fields along with her 9 siblings. She enjoyed reading and learning, but soon found that attending school was not feasible. She wanted more for her children and was committed to achieving that goal. To that end, Mom and Dad moved to Houston only days after their marriage in 1950.
Dad worked long hours, and Mom was truly the heart of our family. The caregiver, the disciplinarian, the cheerleader – she wore many hats. She loved to bake and decorate cakes professionally. She made it clear that our job was to do well in school and help around the house. Her job was to love us, support us, and hold us accountable. She was exceptionally good at her job.
Mom would want to be remembered as a devout Catholic who lived her faith. Mom is preceded in death by her husband. She is survived by her five children; Murvin, Wayne (Celia), Serita Auzenne Dickey, Gerard (Martha), Derwin (Teresa); multiple grand and great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and one sister, Irene Abatte Singleton.
Mom’s life will be celebrated with a Rosary and Mass on Wednesday, June 07, 2023 at St Dominic Village, Warren Chapel, 2401 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, TX 77021. Viewing will begin at 8:30 am, followed by the rosary at 9:00 am, and Mass at 9:30 am. Interment at Holy Cross Cemetery followed by a repast at St Dominic Village.
The Auzenne family is tremendously thankful to the entire staff of St. Dominic Village for the loving care of Mom.
Serving as pallbearers are Jim Hamilton, John Hamilton, Raymond Auzenne, Kelly Houston, Murvin Auzenne and Gabriel Auzenne.
