Ladana had this to say about Papa Sam, he was a good man. He was kind, God-fearing and honest. He led a full life filled with many adventures from serving in the Navy in World War II to driving lumber trucks. After sixty one years of marriage, he buried the love of his life. And the other day, as he lay in bed, he stared at her picture, crying. I don’t think they were tears of sadness or fear, though. I think they were happy tears. Happiness to see Granny again, his one true love, and happiness to be with the Lord. Happiness to finally go home.
I could tell a million stories about how great he was, providing examples on his hard work and generosity, but all we have to do is look at the family he left behind. His loving sister, brothers and their families. His benevolent daughter who never gave up, staying with him until his final day. That’s all the proof I need of the caring, genuine man we will all remember.
