Ruth is survived by her husband Noe; four children: Noe (Vanessa) Ortiz, Natalia (Moises) Barboza, Nariel (Brian) Olsen and Nathanael Ortiz; twelve grandchildren: Emleigh – 15, Mia – 15, Bella – 14, Keira – 13, Samuel – 13, Micah – 13, Adele – 12, Bianca – 10, Hosanna – 9, Enoch – 8, Caden – 6, and Adeline – 3; and her father Merced Luna.
Ruth was preceded in death by her mother Carolina Garza Luna and her sister Alpha Nañez.
Ruth was a servant of God in her church and community. She shared the good news of Jesus at every opportunity. Ruth truly modeled the biblical teaching of “love thy neighbor as thyself” by putting others – from the least to the greatest – before herself. She was known by all as a strong prayer warrior, and spent time every day praying for the needs of others. Her family was her treasure in this world, and she had a special place in her heart for her grandchildren.
Ruth was a commercial real estate broker, but changed her career to become a teacher in the neighborhood in which she grew up. She spent over 20 years as an educator. She received her Master of Education in Counseling in 2007, and worked as a school counselor until her retirement in 2019. She believed in the value of both academic education and spiritual education as the foundation of a successful life.
