Ruth Barnette Miller was born March 12, 1922 in Roanoke, Virginia to Frank & Anne Barnette. She had three brothers, and she was the second oldest child. She grew up in Roanoke. She met her husband, Francis when they worked together at the Radford Ordinance Powder Plant in Radford, Virginia during World War II. They were married January 14, 1945. They remained in Virginia until 1946 when they moved to Dumas, TX for a job. In 1965 they were transferred to Houston. Ruth trained and worked as a Podiatry assistant. They retired in 1985. She had been a Girl Scouts Troop leader, PTA president, active in church missions at Long Point Baptist Church.
She was dedicated to her family. She was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Francis (Red) Miller after 65 years of marriage. She is survived by one brother, Frank R. Barnette, Jr. (Daytona Beach, FL) her daughters Mary Anne and her husband Thomas Girdner (Glen Allen, VA), Jenny Lynne and her husband Larry Phillips (Spring, TX). Ruth has five grandchildren - Daniel, Scott, Shelley & Suzanne Girdner and Lorie Phillips. She has seven great grandchildren and another one due later this year.
