Rudolf "Rudy" Joseph Lozano

Rudolf J. Lozano, “Rudy”, 88, passed away beautifully and peacefully on November 24, 2022. One day shy of his 89th birthday, he was born on November 25, 1933 in San Antonio, TX the only child of Norberto Lozano and Elisa Guevara Lozano. While he grew up in San Antonio, he always shared stories of his time living on the west coast while his dad served in the Navy during World War II.

From an early age, he had a drive and work ethic that was unparalleled, from newspaper routes as a kid, to working in his parent’s grocery store. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in San Antonio, where he pitched and won a baseball state championship and cultivated what would be a lifelong passion for baseball. He attended St Mary’s University before landing a job for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co, and thus setting the course for his life. His bilingual skills sent him from San Antonio, to Del Rio where his first daughter, Cindy, was born, Harlingen where his second daughter, Dotty was born, then a monumental move to San Juan, Puerto Rico. A place he fell in love with and lived for almost 20 years. His third daughter, Kathy was born and Rudy, Jr were born there. It is where he met the love of his live and wife of 53 years, Rosario, and where Jose and Lisa Annette were born.

Rudy used to say, “I don’t work to live; I live to work.”. He truly loved what he did and savored the business world around him. After leaving Goodyear, he went on to become a highly recognized and awarded entrepreneur, as CEO of Bonanza Tire in Houston, TX. He was recognized as one of the top Hispanic entrepreneurs in the nation by two sitting presidents, George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton. No one worked harder or was more disciplined, yet always humble and never forgot where he came from. A mix that served him well in business and life.

However, more than anything, Rudy loved life and his family. He was always the life of the party, the first on the dance floor at any of the countless New Year’s parties he hosted. He loved to travel and see the world. He never met a stranger and treated everyone equally, from a cashier to a CEO. He was always quick to smile and joke around. However, he was a coach at heart, from little league baseball, to mentoring young entrepreneurs to his kids and friends. There was always a lesson in every experience, he gave freely of his time and attention. He loved dancing with his wife, playing games with his grandkids and watching his beloved Astros with his wife and kids. He was an exceptional father and husband and his lessons, guidance, welcoming and service heart, his joking, laughter and his loving ways will be deeply missed.

Rudy was a man of strong faith, and even as he battled Alzheimer’s he reached deep into his faith and watched mass almost daily. In the end, he saw the glory of God and peacefully left this earth. He will be deeply missed, yet his legacy lives in his family and those he touched over his time on this earth.

He is survived by his wife, Rosario. His children, Cindy (Roger), Dotty (d. Mario), Kathy (Paul), Rudy, Jr., Jose (Jeanine) and Lisa Annette. 13 grandchildren: Tina Seals, Chris Hernandez, Paul Compean, Katie Gillam, Michael Lozano, Alicia Lozano, Amanda Fallis, Jessica Miller, Connor Lewis, Will DePoy, Josh Lozano, Ellie DePoy and Ben Lozano, as well as 12 great grandchildren.

A visitation for Rudy will be held Tuesday, November 29, 2022 from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM, with a Rosary service from 5:00PM – 6:00PM at Brookside Funeral Home-Cypress Creek, 9149 Highway 6 North, Houston, TX 77095.

A funeral service will occur Wednesday, November 30, 2022 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 6646 Addicks Satsuma Rd, Houston, TX 77084. Reception immediately following at the Family Life Center.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to a cause near and dear to them and Rudy, JDRF the leading global organization funding type 1 diabetes (T1D) research supporting his youngest grandson and fellow diabetic, Ben.
