He was born on August 10, 1941, to Indalecio Salas Garcia and Francisca Maria Blanco in Houston, Texas. He is one of nine siblings.
Ruben married Olivia Garcia on December 7, 1969, at Bethania Assemblies of God. Together, they have four children: Michael Rene and wife Julia Flores, Laura Lisa, Armando Ruben and wife Abigale Alvarez, and Eva Marie, and husband Hector Garcia.
He is survived by his fifteen grandchildren, siblings: sister Rachel Jones Castellano, sister Rita Garcia, brother Richard Garcia and wife Rosalinda Lopez, brother Ramiro Garcia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ruben is preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Samuel Garcia, Rosa Maria Bautista, Teresa Mary Garcia, and Raymond Raul Garcia.
In his younger years he enrolled at Latin American Bible Institute (L.A.B.I.) in El Paso, Texas for biblical studies. He then went on to work for Brinks Armored Trucks as a mechanic for 5 years. He had numerous hobbies, but his passion was cars. Mainly, his 1971 Ford Mustang Cobra which he raced and won several trophies. With all this experience, he ventured out and opened his own mechanic shop called R.G. Shop on Melrose Street for years before his retirement.
In his spare time Ruben loved to go fishing and hunting with his brothers and nephews. He was also known for hosting house parties, his love of wrestling, going out to eat and taking his grandkids to the mall. He will be remembered by his many friends and family members with his story telling and spontaneous adventures. He was surely a person you’d never forget.

A viewing for Ruben will be held Monday, April 1, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 10:30 AM at Funeraria Del Angel, 5100 North Fwy, Houston, TX 77022, followed by a funeral service from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. A committal service will occur Monday, April 1, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 12:30 PM at Historic Hollywood Cemetery, 3506 N Main St, Houston, TX 77009.
