Roy Jr. is survived by his wife, Kathryn Chapman Lee, children Roy Lee III and wife Lisa Lee, Mark Stephen Lee and wife Analyn Lee, Caron Lee Drake and husband Rusty Drake, sister Juanita Lee Bynum, and six grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy Sr. and Jewel Culp Lee, and his brother Rolan Lee.
Roy Jr. was born on May 13, 1926 in Coryell County, Texas. He grew up on a farm during the Great Depression. He entered the US Army in 1944. He was a veteran of the battle for Okinawa in WW II in the Pacific. After the war, he became an Aggie, graduating from Texas A & M in 1950 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. In 1952 he married Kathryn Marie Chapman, his wife of 65 years.
Roy Jr. worked in Houston as an engineer, rising to a VP position with Uncle Ben's Foods. In 1969, Roy Jr. and family moved to Sioux City, Iowa. There he worked for Iowa Beef Products, where he rose to the position of president.
In 1972, Roy Jr. returned to Houston. Shortly after his return to Houston. he started Conveying Techniques, Inc., where he worked until his death. His inventions and innovations changed the oilfield pipe business just as he had changed the food processing business in years prior. He holds patents on his designs for oilfield pipe handling equipment.
In 2015, at the age of 89, he began work on Cave Creek Vinyards. Prior to his passing, he tasted grapes from his vineyard, literally the fruit of his labor.
A memorial service is scheduled for 2 PM, Saturday August 12, 2017 at Forest Park, 12800 Westheimer Rd., Houston, TX 77077.
There will be an informal celebration of his life at 11 AM, Saturday August 19, 2017 at the ranch, 7505 FM 215, Valley Mills, TX 76689.
