Rose was born to Hercules and Anita Canales on July 29, 1932 in San Marcos, Texas. She grew up in Bryan/College Station and moved to Houston’s 2nd Ward on Delano street in 1947 where she met and eventually married Jesse Felix Medina in 1951 at our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Together, they raised six children in Houston’s East End.
In addition to being a wife and mother, Rose enjoyed a successful career with the Sweeney’s Corporation, where she moved up the ranks in retail management. She was always proud of the fact that she was promoted quickly because she was bilingual. After she retired from Sweeney’s, Rose joined Macy’s fine jewelry. She loved having a career and had a strong work ethic but when finally retired, Rose enjoyed life with her husband and her biggest joy, her grandchildren.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband (married 64 years), her sons Felix and Edward Medina, and her daughter Olivia Medina Guerra. She was also preceded in death by brothers Ramon, Ralph, Robert and Roger and sisters Rebecca, Rachel and Rosie.
She is survived by her son Roy Medina, her daughter Margaret Medina and her daughter Gloria Medina Zenteno and her husband Javier as well as her sisters Rosaura (Sarah) Ramirez and Rojelia (Woody) Mylonas.
Rose was blessed to have seven grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
