Robert retired from the United States Army at Ft. Hood, Texas, in May 1982 after serving overseas in Viet Nam, Korea and Germany. Following his career in the military, Robert worked for MCI Communications traveling around the United States installing communication sites, a job he loved and talked about the rest of his life. His hobbies included riding motorcycles, hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. One of his joys was riding with the Cal-Tex Motorcycle Club. He was a member of the 980 North Volunteer Fire Department of San Jacinto County, a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Association, and a member of the Goldwing Riders Association.
He is preceded in death by his parents William Edward Young and Clara Bell Zernial Young, stepfather Mack Morris Vaughn, brother and sister-in-law Jack and Doris Young, sister and brother-in-law Dorothy and Kenneth Stephenson, and his former wives Harriett Louise Young (mother of his children), and Wanda Young. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Ann Young of Huntsville, Texas; daughter Carol Lynn Young and partner Paul Hunziker of Huron, Tennessee; daughter Sandra Kay Knapke and husband A.J. Knapke of Lampasas, Texas; son Robert A. Young Jr. and wife Sheila Fultz-Young of Lufkin, Texas; step-daughter Lisa Loving-Seghers and husband Gary Seghers of The Woodlands, Texas; step-son Roger Loving and partner Connie Lummus of Trinity, Texas; step-daughter Leann Renee Stavinoha of Port O’Connor, Texas; and step-daughter Emily Short of Huntsville, Texas. Robert was also survived by many grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery, 13001 Katy Freeway, Houston, TX 77079. The visitation will begin at 1:00 PM and the funeral service will start at 2:00 PM.
