Robert Samuel Washburn was born on January 31, 1930 in El Dorado, KS to David S. Washburn and Marcella Loomis. Sam is survived by his wife of 64 years, Anna Leigh, daughter Brenda Kay Blanda and husband John, son Vincent Samuel "Duke" Washburn and wife Kayce. Grandsons Robert Lester "Bobby" Walsh, III and wife Lori, James Samuel "Jake" Washburn, granddaughter Gina-Marissa Leigh Walsh and great-granddaughters Caroline Kate Walsh and Ava Jane Walsh. Brothers Paul Washburn and wife Angela, John Washburn and wife Charlita and sister Christina Hostetler and husband Scott. Cousin Eileen James and a large extended family.
Sam grew up in Kansas City, MO graduating from Westport HS 1947 and Baker University in Baldwin, KS 1954. In 1950 he won the State of Kansas Golden Gloves boxing championship in the welterweight division. After serving in the US Marine Corp he enjoyed a long career in sales and marketing with Cleco Air Tools, retiring in 1992. Sam was a strong man with a soft heart. He possessed a strong work ethic. Sam enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and keeping up with the Dallas Cowboys. He gave unselfishly to a number of local charities, but his knack for telling a good joke well, may be how Sam is remembered most.
A memorial service for Sam will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Friday February 26th at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Rd., Houston, TX 77077. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association. The family expresses their heartfelt thanks to Arbor Terrace-Cinco Ranch and Vantage Hospice in Katy Texas for their loving care.
