Robert Quiroz

Robert Quiroz was born on December 3, 1946 to his parents, Lazaro Quiroz-Potts and Clorinda Marquez Quiroz, baptized as Robert John Quiroz at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Houston, Texas and passed away on May 14, 2023 at the age of 76. He is preceded in death by both his parents and brothers, Floyd Quiroz and Lazaro M. Quiroz, and sister Romanita Q. Chapa.

He is survived by his "favorite" wife, Annie Perez Quiroz after 39 years of marriage. He is also survived by sisters (spouses); Blanche Quiroz Flores & Margaret Quiroz Jaramillo (Freddie); brothers (spouses): Jose D. Quiroz & Frank Quiroz (Dolores). He leaves behind many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews & great-great niece. His special acknowledgment to dear friends, Jesse (JB) Benavidez, Roland Reyes, Paul Garza, Tony Carpio and Ronnie Cuellar who he referred to as his "son" because he took special care of his pick-up truck & was there to talk anytime he dropped by. He also leaves behind many of his past basketball & softball teammates who had the opportunity to play with such an amazing athlete.

Robert was a loving husband, son, brother, uncle, godfather & true friend. He traveled thru various states with his family during the years his father worked for the Railroad. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing baseball as a pitcher and was known then as Porky. While a student at Jefferson Davis High School, he not only was a winning pitcher, he was also known for his high jump and his free throws in basketball. His name was made well known in schools throughout CA, West VA, OK, CO, and TX where he played competitive sports. As a graduate from Jefferson Davis High School, he received over 20+ sport scholarships which included The Univ. of TX, Blinn College, U of H, etc. but instead joined his father in Alaska working as a contractor for the railroad after its 1964 earthquake. When he returned to Houston, he continued to play ball. He played for the Men's Triple-A Fast-pitch Softball tournaments as a catcher for teams such as Gomez, Central and Musical and participated in the Latin American Fast-pitch Softball tournaments. While playing a tournament for Musical in 1983 in Colorado Springs, CO, he was awarded the MVP trophy. This award was especially meaningful to him because it occurred in Colorado, the State where his mother was born.

Robert was very lucky when he married his "favorite & lucky charm" Annie. They didn't have any children together, but they had so much love for each other & for the many nieces & nephews they helped along the way. Traveling was something they loved to do together & the great ride in discovering various interests. One of their favorite travels was attending baseball games in different ballparks. Robert had the opportunity to attend the Indy 500 Races at various times with his brother Frank, but one trip he never forgot and always talked about was the trip to the 1986 Super Bowl game held in New Orleans, Louisiana which he won in a Knights & Columbus raffle. There was never a dull moment with Robert; his sense of humor and quick wit always kept you laughing. He always said you can't teach quick.

Robert worked for the Diagnostic Hospital and The Methodist Hospital Houston, Texas for 24 years as a Sr. First Grade Engineer until his retirement where he was also born. Many of his co-workers knew him for his friendliness to both patients and colleagues, but most importantly his great Bar-B-Q. He loved to cook for others and his reward was seeing people enjoy his food.

We will always love him, miss him terribly, but never forget him. Robert was one of a kind, a good soul with a loving heart. Rest Mi Amor, until we meet again.
