It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of ROBERT STEPHENS MUSSELWHITE, 94, on Sunday, September 23, 2018, in Houston, Texas. Mr. Musselwhite was born in Barnsdale, Oklahoma on July 15, 1924. He was the youngest of four children of Leon Thurman and LaUna (St. Clair) Musselwhite. The family moved to Jackson, MS, when Mr. Musselwhite was a small boy, and that is where he grew up and called home. Mr. Musselwhite graduated from Central High School and earned his BS in mechanical engineering from Mississippi State University. He worked in the aircraft industry for Lockheed, Boeing, (McDonnell) Douglas, and NASA. As an adult, he was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hiking and fishing. He also loved to travel, work with wood, and “make things”.
After living in California, Colorado, and Georgia, Mr. Musselwhite retired to Raton, New Mexico, where he remained for several years. There he was active in his church and Senior Citizens’ Center, and he delivered meals to homebound seniors. He was loved by his family and neighborhood friends. He moved to Houston, Texas, in 2014, to be in a warmer climate. Mr. Musselwhite was a man who enjoyed the simple thing in life, like a thunder storm, chats with friends and family, old western movies, ice cream, strawberry milkshakes, a mountain sunset, and a good joke.
Mr. Musselwhite was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and sister, 2 nephews and a niece. He is survived by his sons, Kenneth Musselwhite (wife Cheryl) of Colorado Springs, CO and Daniel L Musselwhite (wife Sharleen) of Thornton, CO, 5 grandchildren, 2 great grand-sons and several nieces and nephews.
A private family graveside service will be held when he is laid to rest next to his mother in Jackson, Mississippi. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to your local chapter of Meals on Wheels or your favorite charity.
