Angeles, Washington. Growing up on the west coast, with the harbor as his back yard, Jake was
destined to make a career doing something related to the sea. His first step in fulfilling his
destiny was taken when he began working for Lockheed in 1964, a company he stayed with for
12 years. But he found his home when he and 11 others began Ocean Ship holdings, Inc. in 1981.
Amazingly, without a formal college education, Jake became Senior Port Engineer Marine
Manager. His proudest moment of his career was right before he retired, working with his sons
Todd and Terry on the LH Gianella . Jake finally retired in 2014, but his heart will always be part
of the company he loved.
Jake was proud of the work he did, but that paled in comparison to the pride he had in his
children, Todd, Terry, Stephanie and Erika. All four of his children inherited his work ethic, his
character and his love for life.
We could list all the things that he loved to do. Things like shooting, boating, travelling in his RV,
just to name a few. We could also share with you that Jake loved Bonneville salt flat racing as
well as building engines and shooting guns. And if you spent any time around Jake, you would
see one of his dotson’s in his lap over the last 25yrs Sammy, Emmy, Buddy, Mikey and of course
his beloved Rusty.
If Jake’s heart is with Ocean Ship holdings, Inc, his heart and soul belong to the love of his life,
Suzanne Jacobsen. The Jake and Suzanne love story began when they met in 1982 and
continued when they married in 1986. Their marriage was one that all marriages strive to be,
filled with unconditional love, passion, friendship, respect and grace. It was truly a
made-for-movies love story but a love story that was tragically too short. In 1993, Suzanne
passed away following a brave battle with breast cancer. The story might have been cut short
but the love that Jake has for Suzanne never wavered, never faded, never ended. We find peace
in knowing that today, Jake and Suzanne are reunited.
Jake was preceded in death by his parents Betty and Edward Jacobsen; his daughter in law,
Martha Jacobsen; and his beloved wife, Suzanne Jacobsen. He is also survived by his sons
Joseph Jacobsen, Terry Jacobsen and wife Sarah; his daughters Stephanie Baker and Erika
Wakely; his 12 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren; and his siblings, Michael, Thomas, James,
Joseph, Patrick Jacobsen and Teresa Adams.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 10:00AM at Earthman Resthaven Funeral Home. Interment will follow at
Earthman Resthaven Cemetery.
