Robert William Burrell, Sr. was born on March 10, 1922 in Plantersville, Texas to the late Tommie Burrell and Hattie Freair Burrell. Also, he was preceded in death by five sisters: Ethel Mae Canada, Tommie Lee Easley, Lottie Franklin, Cora Dean Burrell, and Hazel Mae Hamilton and two brothers: L. C. Linton, and Warren G. Burrell Robert received his formal education from the local schools in Baytown, Texas. Robert accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age. He joined the Church of God and Christ in Baytown, Texas as he stayed a member until he retired and moved to Palestine, TX. After completing his education, he served his country by joining the United States Marine Corps with Honorable Discharge, June 15, 1943 to December 19, 1945. While in the Marine Corps he received: American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal with 4 Bronze Stars, Presidential Unit Citation Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal and Honorable Service Lapel Button. Robert's worked in many capacities: an Electrician, Manager for the Palestine Mail, but his main life line was a Rural Carrier for the United States Postal Service in Baytown, Texas, where he retired in 1984. After 92 years of life, Robert W. Burrell relationship with Pearlie Mae Freeman produced Albert Thompson. Robert W. Burrell was married to Mary Louise Landry Burrell until her death, August, 1978. Their union, produced, Susan Hightower, Robert Burrell, Jr, Carolyn Elmore, Daniel Burrell, Darryl Burrell, Joel Finnis Burrell, and Bruce Steven Burrell. He is a grandfather and great-grandfather to a host of grandchildren from his union with Mary Louise, and a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. After the death of his wife Mary Louise, and after the death of Marie Lacy Moseley's husband, Howard, Frank Smith, his neighbor of Baytown, Texas, introduced the two in Houston, Texas at the birth of Marie's granddaughter. Their discussions and friendship to console each other about their deceased spouses, developed into a relationship that led to their marriage, and resulted in thirty-four years of marriage, until his death. In Robert's and Marie's union together, there were no children. However, he was the stepfather, to Marie's children, Jerelean Boyd, Howard Moseley, and the late Linda Gilmore. Again, he was the PawPaw to a host of her grandchildren and great grandchildren, nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends. After marriage and his retirement as a Rural Carrier in Baytown, he moved to Palestine, Texas, where he joined and attended Grant Chapel A & M Church until his death. Robert past time included reading a variety of books (bios, informational books on health, politics, etc.), fishing, outdoor activities, jazz, and an advent radio listener. He had strong opinions and comments of the current politics and daily news. He was a strong, caring and loving Man. He loved his family, children, enjoyed the holidays and all family activities and will be missed in all aspects of our lives. When it was time to for Robert to end a telephone call or depart, he never said "Goodbye", but, I'M GON". He' gon. "So now, those who are in Christ Jesus are not judged guilty. Through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit that brings life made me free from the law that brings sin and death. The law was without power, because the law was made weak by our sinful selves. But God did what the law could not do. He sent his own Son to earth with the same human life that others use for sin. By sending his Son to be an offering for sin, God used a human life to destroy sin. He did this so that we could be the kind of people the law correctly wants us to be. Now we do not live following our sinful selves, but we live following the Spirit." Romans 8:1-4
