September 9, 2011, a hole was left in many hearts when Rita Kelma Eddings, “Mimi,” went to be with our Lord after a valiant battle with cancer. Throughout her illness and until the end she was surrounded by her loving family and extraordinary number of friends. The Texans have lost their loudest cheerleader, The Astros their most faithful fan and The Rockets a loyal viewer. Veterans events at her cherished American Legion Post 578, Bunko Groups, Marathon Runners and Halloween Contests will never be the same without her fabulous costumes. Her career spanned over 35 years in mortgage banking. A month before she passed she still insisted on working at least three days a week at Carbonics, Inc. Rita will always be remembered for her awesome intelligence, quick wit, vibrant humor and tenaciousness to achieve. She was born in Chicago, IL on February 15, 1930. Predeceased by husband Norman “Eddie” Eddings, she is survived by her children, Randy Robertson, Dawn Vastine, Crystal Robertson Milner and Sandy Ray (husband Michael). Her grandchildren, Misty Robertson, Shawn Vastine, Michelle Vincent (husband Vinnie), Desha Vastine and Sam Herren. Her great grandchildren, Lexy Robertson, Dakota Vastine and Sophia Vincent. Alas, she’ll be greatly missed by her four-legged kids Shasha, Jackson, Thor and Harley.
Visitation Wednesday, September 14, 2011 from 6-9 pm and Memorial Service Thursday, September 15 at 12:30 pm at Brookside Funeral Home, 13401 Eastex Freeway at Lauder Rd. In lieu of flowers, Rita would appreciate a donation to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
