Richard Reed Young, beloved son, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend, died Sunday, February 23, 2014. He left behind the love of his life and his wife of 59 years, Phillipa, along with their four children and their families. He was born at West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA and raised in Brentwood, PA just outside of Pittsburgh. He is the son of Helen and Arden Young and has a younger sister, Barbara and a younger brother, Tom, all of whom attended Elroy Elementary School. He graduated from Brentwood High School with honors before attending Penn State University where he obtained a BS Degree in Petroleum Engineering in 1953. He started his Oil & Gas career with Marathon Oil Company in Hobbs, NM. He also spent time with Marathon in Littleton, CO and Midland, TX, with most of his time in Houston, TX. He retired from Marathon in 1992 after 40 years of service. His favorite pastimes included fishing, boating and spending time with his children and grandchildren, either coaching their teams or rooting them on in their many different activities. He was a proud and loyal Penn Stater.
