Richard Brooks Walters passed away on the 8th of January 2011 from complications of cancer. Dick was a native Houstonian, born on the 11th of January 1945 to the late Wyatt Walters and Norma Brooks Walters.
Dick was preceded in death by his mother, Norma Brooks Walters, a native of Savannah, Georgia, and his father, Wyatt Walters, a native of Ace, Texas. He is survived by his sons William R. Walters and wife Cara and Blake R. Walters, his brother, Charley Walters, special friend Paula S. Porter, who has been with him every step of the way, nephews Brooks S. Walters, William S. Walters and Matthew Walters, the mother of his children, Sue Ragsdale Walters, and step-son Brian Bossin.
Dick was in the 1963 graduating class of Lamar High School in Houston, where he was a scholar athlete. In 1967 he graduated from Washington & Lee University in Lexington, Virginia, where he was president and rush chairman of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He graduated from the University of Houston Law Center in 1971 and began his working career at Haskins & Sells CPA’s. Dick practiced law with Fulbright & Jaworski, and, for the last 20 years, practiced law as named member of Kormeier & Walters, LLP. He was a member of the American College of Trust & Estate Counsel, selected as a Texas Super Lawyer, and for the last 5 years served as President and a Board Member of Lamar High School Alumni Association. Dick was also a long-time board member and facilitator of the DBSA (Depression Bi-Polar Support Alliance) of Greater Houston.
A Memorial service is to be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Friday, the 14th of January, at Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay Street in Houston. Immediately following the service, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent Fellowship Hall.
Serving as honorary pallbearers during the services are Barry Beeson, Ray Hankamer, Bob D. Harrison, Melton Henry, Milton Henry, Victor Kormeier, Gary Levering, Bill Poland, John Ramsey, Greg Thrower, Tim Timanus and Ken Wax.
