Richard Thomas Schmidt, 89, of Pasadena, Texas, went to heaven on May 28, 2023 just after 2pm. He went in peace following a month’s-long brave fight with illnesses. He was surrounded by family, and Bubba was at his bedside holding his hand when he went in peace.
Richard was born to Max Thomas Schmidt and Bertha Adela Arlitt Schmidt, September 29, 1933, in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Lamar High School in 1951. He attended University of Houston but left to serve in The Air Force.
He married Margaret Louise Meneley in 1961 , and they lived together in Houston, Texas, parting ways in 1984. Together they raised four children.
He is survived by his children: Richard Allen “Bubba” Schmidt, Karl Andrew Schmidt and his wife Rachel, Kathleen Rose Pearl, and Ramona Kay Story and her husband Dave. Grandchildren: Berkley Pearl, Allan Pearl, Savannah Pearl; Maximillian Schmidt, Alexandrea Schmidt, and Catalina Schmidt. And longtime sweetheart Alba Lintula.
He also leaves to cherish his memory his brother Paul and his wife Connie; his sister Maxine, and eleven nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Fred, nephew and in-laws, and his granddaughter Leila. Richard worked as a survey crew head chainman in the mapping surveying department for Houston Lighting and Power Company for 34 years. Retired to enjoy time gardening, landscaping, and fishing. The final decades of his life was spent in his own home with the full time loving care, companionship, and assistance of Bubba with whom he had a very special lifelong bond. They enjoyed sightseeing and dining out and visiting. They had each other. They had We, Us, and Our.
A funeral and interment is scheduled for June 10th, 2023 at 2:00pm at Forest Park Lawndale. 6900 Lawndale St. Houston. A reception will follow at the Fairmont Townhomes community house 4213 Young St. Pasadena. RSVP to 713-818-5672 Margaret. Leave message if no answer.
