Richard Jay Johnson, born November 24, 1926, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, was forever reunited with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, October 30, 2013. Richard was born in Louisville, Kentucky to Dr. Robert Hays Johnson and Miss Frances Keen Jay. Richard grew up in New Orleans and served in the US Navy in the Pacific Theatre during the last years of World War II as a seaman 1st class. He graduated from Tulane University in 1951 with a degree in Geology, with minors in Physics and Chemistry. He was a Life Loyal member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and also served as his Chapter President.
Richard met and married the love of his life, Mildred Joyce Claybar, on December 28, 1955, and together they raised three wonderful and devoted children. He was employed as a landman in the Oil and Gas industry for his entire career, at such companies as Texasgulf, Elf Aquitaine and Phillips Petroleum.
His hobbies included fishing, stamp & coin collecting, traveling and especially spending time with his family.
He leaves behind to mourn his passing his loving wife Joyce, son Paul and wife Lee Ann, son Douglas, daughter Emily, daughter-in-law Allison, and grandchildren Douglas Hays, Jr., Roger Jay, and Laura Ann Johnson.
Memorial services will be held on Veterans’ Day, November 11, at 10 a.m. at Memorial Oaks Cemetery Funeral home. In lieu of other remembrances, the family respectfully requests that you make a donation to the charity of your choice.
