Richard Scott Crowther, beloved son, father, and grandfather, passed away in Giddings, Texas, on Thursday, the 23rd of December 2021. He was born on the 1st of October 1954, in San Antonio, to James and Nancy Crowther, and lived and worked most of his life in Houston.
After graduating Robert E. Lee High School, he attended Southern Methodist University where he earned a degree in Political Science in 1976 and Juris Doctor in 1979. During his successful career in law, he practiced at Mills, Shirley, McMicken & Eckel; Roberts Markel & Guerry, L.L.P.; and his own private practice Neves & Crowther, A Texas Partnership.
He also served the community as a Felony Assistant Criminal District Attorney in Smith County and as Chief Felony Prosecutor at the 33rd and 424th District Attorney’s Offices in Burnet County.
Richard was blessed with two children, Cassandra Quinn and Nicholas Crowther, and was deeply proud of the remarkable careers they built for themselves.
Richard enjoyed traveling and took many vacations throughout his life with his children, and then in recent years had many adventures with his grandsons. Being a grandparent was a source of great pride in his life, and when he retired to Giddings, he was able to spend more time with his family in Austin. Grandpa Richard never missed a birthday party or an opportunity to boast about his grandchildren.
Richard is preceded in death by his father, James Earl Crowther; and his grandparents. He is survived by his mother, Nancy S. Crowther; children, Cassandra Quinn and her husband Matthew Quinn, Nicholas James Crowther and his wife Raina Gilyard-Crowther; grandchildren, Raleigh J. Crowther and Alister B. Crowther; brothers, Paul W. Crowther, and Robert P. Crowther along with his wife Kathy and their children John J. Crowther, Andrew S. Crowther, and William R. Crowther.
A celebration in honor of the life of Richard Scott Crowther is to be conducted at two o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 8th of January, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.
