Richard Doyle Cockrell, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on May 25, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, adventure, and cherished memories. Doyle was born on December 6, 1939, in Franklin County, Texas, to his parents William Jack and Ila Faye (Hanks).
Doyle was the oldest of four children, and he shared a special bond with his siblings: Brothers Jackie and Kenneth, and little sister Jan Seely.
Doyle graduated from Aldine High School, in Houston, Texas where he fostered his love for sports. While in college in Odessa, Texas he met the love of his life Carolyn, whom he had been married to for an incredible 61 years. Their love story was an inspiration to all who knew them. Together, they built a life filled with joy, laughter, and cherished memories.
Richard and Carolyn were blessed with two children, Debbie, and Darin, who brought immeasurable happiness to their lives. His proudest role, however, was that of Opa to his grandson, Carter. Doyle's face would light up with joy whenever he watched Carter on the field. He had a special place in his heart for his beloved HAWKS baseball team.
Doyle embarked on a successful career in the oil business, which allowed him to explore the world and experience diverse cultures. His work took him to various countries including Indonesia, Libya, Saudi Arabia, Venezuela, and two stints in Alaska.
Doyle had a zest for travel and a deep love for cruising. Exploring new destinations with family and friends brought him immense joy. Doyle’s enthusiasm for exploring new places was contagious, and he enjoyed sharing his travel stories and experiences with family and friends. He had visited all continents but Antarctica.
Doyle had a soft spot for animals and loved his pets dearly. Their companionship brought him comfort and joy throughout his life. He also had a deep-rooted love for his home state of Texas, embracing its rich history, and traditions, Doyle was particularly passionate about supporting the Permian Panthers, Dallas Cowboys, and Houston Astros always cheering them and coaching from the sidelines.
His kindness extended beyond his immediate family. He had a genuine affection for his nieces and nephews and held a special place in his heart for several family friends. He embraced his role as a father figure, offering guidance, love, and support whenever needed.
Richard Doyle Cockrell leaves behind a legacy of love, adventure, and a zest for life. Doyle will be remembered as a dedicated family man, cherishing the time spent with his loved ones and creating lasting memories together. Doyle will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He touched the lives of many, leaving lasting impressions and unforgettable memories.
Doyle leaves behind his cherished wife, Carolyn Cockrell, Daughter Debbie and son-in-law Gene Andreozzi and grandson Carter, son Darin Cockrell and sister Jan Seely, sister-in-law Sharon Cockrell, numerous nieces and nephews and his pals Brodie and Blue. Doyle was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Faye and brothers Kenneth and Jackie and stillborn sister Virginia Gayle.
