Richard Salazar Capuchino was born on September 18, 1939 to Gregorio and Refugia Capuchino at Houston’s Jeff Davis Hospital. He was the fourth of nine children that spent his early years living in the countryside just outside of Houston. He married to Mary Helen Hurtado in November 1959 and had five children: Christine Martinez, JoAnn Bernal, Rebecca Hance, Richard S. Capuchino Jr. and Jose Gregorio Capuchino. He is survived by four sisters and one brother. He was lovingly known as “PoPo” to his five granddaughters and four grandsons. Richard had nine great granddaughters and three great grandsons. He was known as “Cap” to close friends and was a lifelong Astros fan after playing ball himself for many years in a regional Latin American League in Southeast Texas. “Cap” was an avid fisherman and loved nature and gardening. He had three Miniature Schnauzers over the last 25 years and in lieu of flowers, donations to the Houston SPCA are encouraged.
His funeral services will be private for his closest family members, upon his wishes.
