Phoebe D. Catli, age 80, of Houston, Texas, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2024. She is survived by her husband Sam, daughter Yaz, son-in-law Dan, granddaughter Adrienne, niece Aniway, grandnephew Enki, grandniece Tala, niece Lorena, as well as her beloved Duhaylungsod family in the Philippines, including her surviving siblings Nenita, Ruth, Noel, Jonathan, and Alma.
Phoebe was born in Zamboanga, Philippines. She received her nursing degree from Brokenshire College of Nursing in Davao City, Philippines and received further training at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. Upon moving to New Orleans, Phoebe was a staff nurse at Ochsner hospital. In the 1970s, Phoebe joined Medical Clinic of Houston and retired in the late 1980s.
Phoebe helped establish the House of Shiloh orphanage in the Philippines, conducted educational outreach in remote areas of Mindanao, Philippines, and was active in the Houston-based Filipino organizations People Caring for the Community and the Philippine Nurses Association Metropolitan Houston. Phoebe was an involved member and volunteer of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church Gethsemane Campus for over 50 years. She led Gethsemane's Sewing Circle of Hope for African women refugees.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions can be sent to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in lieu of flowers.
A visitation for Phoebe will be held Wednesday, January 24, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, 12800 Westheimer Road, Houston, TX 77077. Following the visitation will be a graveside service from 1:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home and Cemetery, 12800 Westheimer Rd, Houston, TX 77077.
In addition to the visitation and burial on January 24, a memorial service for Phoebe will be held at St. Luke’s Methodist Church Gethsemane Campus on March 16, 2024.
