Phillip Randolph Evans peacefully entered Heaven to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on August 16, 2024, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 27 years Doris Evans; parents, Mabel and Reginald Evans; and brother, R.D. Evans, Jr.
Phil was born February 2, 1939, in Houston, Texas. He graduated from Reagan High School in 1957. He went on to attend Texas A&M College (before becoming University) with a degree in Civil Engineering in 1961 and an MBA in 1962.
Phil had a successful career in the Telecommunications industry for over 40 years. He served in leadership positions in the International Communications Association. He was most pleased with helping develop telecommunications university degree programs across the country. He was selected as one of the Tech Industry’s “Top 25 Most Influential Visionaries” in 1990 along with Bill Gates and other high tech influencers. In God’s great plan, it was Phil’s work in Telecommunications that led to Phil meeting Mary Ann. They remained devoted to each other for 37 years.
He achieved his lifetime goal of visiting all 50 states. During these travels, he enjoyed many of his favorite activities - skiing, golf, scuba diving, and of course, eating delicious local foods!
Phil, also known as Poppy was an exceptional man. He loved Jesus, family, friends, Texas and the Fightin’ Texas Aggies. Everyone knows he was a foodie! He enjoyed cooking and was known for his guacamole and jalapeño poppers.
Most of all, Phil was a man of God. He served as a role model of what a Christian husband and father should be. Throughout his entire life, Phil served the Lord faithfully. Each morning, he studied a chapter of Proverbs. He dedicated his life to Jesus Christ. He truly believed “in all things give thanks” and modeled that through his unwavering trust in God.
Phil is survived by his loving family: wife, Mary Ann, daughter Kim Evans, daughter and son-in-law Kay and Chris Amendola and grandsons Gannon and Garrison Amendola, his brother’s wife Nellie Don Evans and their son and wife Kyle and Rosanne Evans. Also included are countless loved ones including … each of you♥️. Now, in the name of Jesus, go out and Love one another. God is Love.
