Peggy Jo Griffin Marino passed into eternal rest April 11,2014 after a valient battle with Pancreatic Cancer. Peggy was 77 years old. She was a beautiful person, inside and out. Peggy was born October 14, 1936 in Liberty,Texas to Ocscar O. Griffin, Sr. and Myrtle Edgar Griffin. She went to Liberty High School, where she played the French Horn and volleyball and sang with the Liberty Belles. She was named District FFA Sweetheart her senior year, in 1954.
Peggy moved to Houston, where she worked downtown, when she met and married the love of her life, Samuel Joseph Marino, on June 21, 1959. They spent the next 55 years doing everything together. They were part owners of Ad-Vanced Web Printing Company in Houston. There, they worked side by side for 23 years. Peggy was an unconditionally loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Her presence made life easier for everyone around her. Peggy and Sam made wonderful memories together with their family and friends. Peggy cherished her longtime friendship with her best friend, Margie. They were always there for each other, for 57 years. Throughout her life she enjoyed waterskiing, fishing , reading, gambling and loved playing with her grandchildren. Peggy was a dedicated sports fan. She loved the Houston Oilers, Texans, and Rockets, no matter what their record was. She never missed watching a game. She was a member of the Assumption Catholic Church alter society and was president of the PTA. In the last few years, she took great comfort having Sam by her side as she bravely faced the effects of her illness. Peggy is survived by her husband: Samuel Joseph Marino, her three daughters: Diane Marino of Freeport, TX, Sheri Marino Holik and husband, Michael of Sugar Land, TX, and Maryellen Marino Bonner and husband, Eddie of Portland, TX, her five grandchildren: Ryan, Grace, Ashley, Paige and Christopher, her brother: Edgar C. Griffin and wife, Gay, her sister-in-law: Patricia Griffin, her brother-in-law: Paul Marino and wife, Barbara. She is also survived by her beloved nephews, nieces, and cousins. Peggy was predeceased by her brother: Oscar O. Griffin, Jr. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 21, 2014 from 5:00 to 9:00PM with a recitation of the Holy Rosary at 7:00PM in the chapel of Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale St. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at 10:00AM at Co-Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 1111 St. Joseph Pkwy, with Fr. Lawrence W. Jozwiak, celebrant. A reception luncheon will immediatly follow at Cathedral Centre.
