Patsy Carolyn Carnes, youngest child born to Lula Mae and Cecil Carnes in Houston, TX, April 6, 1936, passed away Friday, September 12, 2014 at West Houston Medical Center in Houston, TX at the age of 78.
Patsy attended Lamar High School, and the University of Texas for two years, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. She later graduated from the University of Houston in 1959 with a bachelor's degree in education, and taught in the Houston Independent School District for three years as a third grade teacher.
Patsy was dearly loved by her children and grandchildren, who called her "Giggy," and loved baking cookies and playing games with her. She was a member of the Houston Junior Forum, where she volunteered in the resale shop, as well as the Houston Juvenile Diabetes Association, and was a faithful contributor to the Caren Colley Scholarship Endowment, founded in her daughter's name.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her daughter, Caren Colley Shaum. She is survived by her daughter, Susan Colley Harkins and husband Bill Harkins, granddaughters Hailey and Madeline Harkins; her brother Cecil Carnes, Jr., nephew John Carnes and wife Adela.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 20th, at Forest Park Westheimer.
