Patricia Ann Hill of Houston, Texas went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 2, 2023, at the age of 83. She was born on March 12, 1939 in Birmingham, Alabama where she attended and graduated from Jones Valley High School. She attended Freed-Hardeman College where she fell in love and married Ron Hill. They were married for 54 years.
Ron and Pat worked with several churches in Tennessee, Louisiana and Texas. In 1969, Ron became minister of Hidden Valley Church of Christ which became their church home for the rest of their lives. Pat taught and organized children’s Bible classes, ladies' Bible classes, vacation Bible school and church camp. Pat loved the Lord and served faithfully alongside Ron in ministry for more than fifty years.
When Pat and Ron moved into their home in Hidden Valley with three children Connie 6, Tony 4, and Tommy 3, needless to say she was very busy. She made their development in all areas of life a priority. She encouraged each of her children to pursue their interests. This meant hours spent on school work, school plays, band concerts and ball games. Pat’s expectations for her children were simple. No matter what they chose to do she wanted them to do their best and to love God. As a grandmother, Nana Pat continued to support her grandchildren in the same way. Nana could once again be found at sporting events and performances demonstrating her love and encouragement of their interests.
Pat began her career in education at Hidden Valley Elementary in the Aldine School District. She first served as a teacher’s aide and later became the school secretary. As everyone knows, school secretaries set the culture of any school. Her servant’s heart endeared her to teachers, administrators, staff and families. Pat retired from Aldine ISD after 21 years of service.
All were welcome in Pat and Ron’s home. Their house was filled with joy and laughter as people gathered there after church, for Bible studies, and for celebrations. Whether someone needed a place to stay while visiting the church or a place to stay while they got on their feet, Pat and Ron welcomed them with open arms.
Music and gardening were sources of joy to Pat. She loved every song in the hymnal and singing brought her closer to God. She taught her kids how to read music on long road trips to visit family and they would harmonize all the way to Alabama or Illinois and back. Pat loved spending time outdoors planting flowers and vegetables. In the springtime Pat loved to sit on her porch and watch the beauty of God’s world unfold.
Pat’s true gift was her authenticity. She was loving, creative, funny and laughed easily. Pat wanted to connect with people. She listened to each person with genuine interest and concern. Pat wanted to serve God and tried everyday to be of service to Him in whatever way she could.
Pat was preceded in death by her husband Ronald Hill, son Tony Hill, parents William E. Jacobsen and Mildred Anthony Jacobsen, brother Bob Jacobsen, and brother-in-law Burl L. Smith. She is survived by her daughter Connie Hill, son Tommy Hill and wife Alaina, grandchildren Annalisa Castillo and husband Luis, Dustin Hill, Anthony Hill, Carson Hill, and Ryan Hill. She is also survived by her sister Evelyn Jacobsen Smith, nephews Kerry Smith, Brian Smith and wife Mandy, Chris Smith and wife Susie.
We love her. We are thankful for her. We will miss her.
