Pamela Joyce Palmer, known by family and friends as Pam or Ms. Pam, was born August 15, 1954, to Frances Jean Harris and John Harris. She was the eldest of eight whom she loved and adored. She excepted Christ under the leadership of Reverend Luis Achian, her grandfather, at New Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. Pamela excelled in academics throughout her school years, which led her to graduate sooner than anticipated. She was passionate about cheerleading throughout her childhood. Pamela was a proud graduate of B.C. Elmore Class of 1972 where she met her high school sweetheart, Beanard Mims.
Pamela faced many adversities during her childhood while growing up in Settegas Community. At the age of fourteen, during the height of the movement when Dr. King was assassinated, Pam along with siblings and friends took part in the Woodworth downtown sit-ins. This is where she developed a passion and love for people and community. Despite those difficulties, she was able to secure employment at The Houstonian which paved the way for others facing the same hardships.
With a continuous desire for love for community for those around her, Pamela developed through childhood to adulthood. She began her career at Brightstar Healthcare and quickly advanced as a director as she stood in purpose for over 20 years. Pamela was a great nurturer to many residents whom she cared for at Brightstar Healthcare; and a leader amongst her peers. She lived a life of humility where she humbly served everyone around her.
Pamela is preceded in death by her mother (Frances Jean Harris), father (John Harris), brothers (Donald Ray Palmer and Kenneth Palmer). She is survived by her four children, Shonon Palmer, Keisha Palmer, Kristal Palmer, and Brittri Ridley (Obie); grandchildren Kiera Miles, Keshona Miles, Kira Powers, Chezare Holland Jr. and Herman Loston.; great- children Jeremiah McCarter Jr. and Donald Taplette IV; siblings Bridgette Henson, Johnetta Angel, Terry Harris (Celeste), Monica Harris, and Henric Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Pamela was a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and cousin to everyone around her. She will be missed by many.
