Preceded in death, daughter Angie McMillen, and husbands Bill Valentine and Kirk Murphy.
Survived by Philip and Anne Valentine (Fredericksburg), Susan and Martin Buckley (Houston), Brian McMillan (North Carolina), brother Christopher Harrison, nephew Richard and niece Ele Harrison (London) and Mary Hastings (Houston), her friend of 73 years.
Mimi/Nanny was much loved by her seven grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Pam was born in Durban South Africa to Dorothy Alice Taylor and Ambrose Warde Harrison. Her father was stationed there with the British Cable and Wireless Company. The Harrison family returned to England in 1928 and lived west of London in Wembley Park, Middlesex.
Pam was a graduate of North London Collegiate School. She attended two years of secretarial college and was working in London. She turned 21 on D-day 1944, June 6, 1944. She had met William R. Valentine, an American GI earlier that year. They were married in Kingsbury Church on July 16, 1945. In March 1946, Pam immigrated to the U.S. with hundreds of war brides on the HMS Queen Mary.
Pam became a U.S. citizen in 1965 and was a lifelong Houston resident. She worked for the British Consulate and was a founding member of the Piccadilly Chapter. Daughters of the British Empire (DBE) for 70 years. She participated in many British Bazaar fundraisers to support the Mountbattan House retirement home in Highlands, Texas. Pam was an executive secretary for 27 years and enjoyed working at Aramco, the Crispin Company and Chubb Insurance Company.
Always an avid reader, Pam enjoyed gardening, cooking and entertaining. Her Raspberry Trifle, Shepard’s Pie and cheese toast and many other dishes were enjoyed by family and friends.
There will be a “Remembrance Celebration” at 2:00pm on Thursday, September 22nd at Terrytowne Estates, 8158 Enclave Parkway.
A memorial service will be held at Saint Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road at 2:00 pm on September 23, 2022.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saint Martin’s Music Ministry.
