Oscar (Leon Mack) Jones, the ninth of eleven children was born September 19, 1943 to Susie and Richard Jones in Brookshire, Texas. Oscar attended Ralph J. Bunche public schools. He graduated from Ralph Bunche High School in 1961. During his attendance at Ralph Bunche High School, he was very active in sports. There he won many honors in Track, Basketball and Football. His ability to excel in football as a "keen quarterback," he was given special notice. He earned a LETTER. Oscar pursued his higher education in Houston, Texas at Texas Southern University. His focus was education. Oscar accepted our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as his Savior at a very young age. He was baptized at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Brookshire, Texas; Reverend Shever Adam was the pastor. Oscar was a kind, gentle man who believed in reading the Bible daily to understand the Word of God better. Oscar married in Houston, Texas in June 2, 1965 to Esther Loriece Sampson. To this union one child was born, a son, Daven Demond Jones. Oscar was employed with Kraft General Foods. He worked for 35 years of Maxwell House Coffee as a Production Engineer and admired group leader. A man who wore many colored caps, he was called, "cap man." Oscar departed this life Saturday April, 18, 2015 at 2:41 PM. He leaves to cherish his memory: his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, Esther L. Jones; a son, Daven Demond Jones; a devoted grandson, Donovan M. Jones; a sister, Celia Keys (Brookshire, Texas); brothers, Richard Earl Jones (Irene) (California), Sie Jones (Linda) (Brookshire, Texas) and Wiley Jones (Karen) (Brookshire, Texas) and a host of nieces, nephews, special relatives and friends.
