Aunt Ora attended Booker Washington High School in Houston, Texas, and graduated in 1942. Aunt Ora attended Prairie View A&M and later attended Hughes Business College to pursue a business career, as she often reminded us that she was a "BUSINESSWOMAN."
She met and married Planey Virgil Robinson on August 16, 1956. They had two sons, Charles Planey Robinson and Virgil Carl Robinson.
She was a faithful member of Buck Street Church of God In Christ under the late John Gamble, Charles Harrison, Pinkston Bell II and current pastor, Bishop Prince E. Bryant, Sr. throughout her 98 years of life. She was a member of many auxiliaries, bands, units, and boards, including the Trustee Board, Decorating Committee Chairperson, Deaconess, Sunday School Secretary, Purity Class President, Home and Foreign MIssion, Bereavement Committee, Buck Street Choral Club and Senior Choir. She served in Texas South Central Jurisdiction under the late Bishop C. L. Nelson, Bishop Nathaniel Henderson and current Prelate, Bishop Prince E. Bryant with the Christian Women's Council as treasurer.
Aunt Ora worked as the Secretary and later placed on the Board of Regents for the Charles Harrison Mason Bible College under the late Reverend A. J. Hines. She then worked at Carl Barnes Funeral Home for many years assisting her brothers in the family business established for over 60 years until it was sold. She also worked at Houston Community College at the Northwest Campus on Pinemont as the evening Receptionist, where she took pride in welcoming the faculty and students to the campus daily. She was also a stellar wedding coordinator for many new brides-to-be. She also enjoyed playing the piano, traveling worldwide, and helping the elderly in the Heights.
Aunt Ora transitioned on December 10, 2024, at 9:30 a.m. She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Barnes; mother, Maxey Barnes; husband Planey V. Robinson; sons, Charles P. Robinson and Virgil C. Robinson; her beloved brothers who nurtured and took care of her; Timothy, Titus, Thomas, Cornelius and Carl Jr., Barnes; a god-daughter, Deloris Santee, and dear friends Earline Bell, Dorothy Hall, and Cora Lee Boyd.
Her grandchildren are cherishing her memory, Byron Johnson, Charles Robinson, Jr., Christopher Robinson, and Luca RObinson. A god-daughter, Loretta Barnes McShane. She had all of her host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Special caretaker nieces Cari Barnes, Sharon Barnes, Doris Green and Marilyn Barnes-Clay (deceased). Special caretaker son, Deacon Craig Harris. Close friend and cousin, Dr. Joanna Smith. Her dear friend, Clara Ramsey. Many other relatives of the Barnes, Robinson and Duncan families and many, many friends.
