On February 2, 1936, Dora was born to J.B. Jones and Willie Mae Jones of Pelican, DeSoto Parish, Louisiana. Dora was the eldest of the eight Jones children. Dora worked on the farm, which included growing and harvesting cotton and corn. Dora accepted Christ at an early age at Evergreen Baptist Church in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana. At the age of 17, Dora moved to Houston, TX. She married Cleveland Edwards and later divorced. This union blessed them with a beautiful daughter, Gloria Denise Edwards. In 1969, Dora married Charles Edward Jarmon. They remained married until his passing on July 5, 2009. As a young girl, Dora had an acute sense of business. Actually at the age of 15, she began her business in her parent’s front yard by pressing the hair of several young girls in her community. Dora was extremely ambitious and had a desire to obtain formal training as a beautician. In 1956, Dora graduated from Wardell Beauty School located in downtown Houston. Afterwards, she obtained her Cosmetology Operator License from the state of Texas. Later in 1961, she opened Dora’s Beauty Shop and enjoyed a self-sufficient and fulfilling career that spanned more than 60 years. As an entrepreneur, Dora owned and operated her business until the day God called her home. She frequently talked about her personal relationship with God and never hesitated to express her gratitude to God for allowing her to overcome the many obstacles she faced in life. On the morning of September 7, 2018, Dora went to receive her heavenly reward. She was predeceased by her husband Charles Edward Jarmon; her former spouses Curtis McGee and Cleveland Edwards; her father J.B. Jones, Sr.; her brothers J.B. Jones, Jr. and Johnny Lee Jones.
