Morris Aubrey Smith of Spring, Texas, passed away on December 17, 2018, at the age of 96. He was born on his family’s farm outside of New Waverly on November 21, 1922. There Henry and Lola Smith raised Aubrey, his two brothers, Alvin Henry and Donald Ray, and his four sisters, Lola Beatrice, Lois Ellen, Bertie, and Mona Marie. Aubrey went on to see what he would say was “as much of the world as any Texas farm kid could ever hope to.” During World War II he served as an Army radio operator on transport flights in North Africa, the Mediterranean, and Europe. After the war, he returned to a career with Westinghouse, which took him to Saudi Arabia, Louisiana, Georgia, and points between. Throughout his travels, Aubrey’s love of nature—gardening, wildlife, and beautiful landscapes stayed constant. Aubrey married Genevieve Baker in 1942. She was the love of his life through 70 years of marriage. Well into his nineties, Aubrey cared for and doted on Genevieve. Near the end of her life, Aubrey took fresh-cut plumerias to Genevieve’s hospital room each day when he went to stay with her. Aubrey is survived by four generations of family who were the light of his life and who are grateful for his love, his lessons, and . . . . his incredible stories—two sons: Billy Smith and Larry Smith and his wife, Kathy Smith; five grandchildren: Darren Moura-Smith and his wife Corri Moura-Smith, Candy Koen and her husband Mark Koen, Jason Smith and his partner Amie Ely, Jennifer Kay Smith, Kenny Smith and his wife Brandy Smith; nine great-grandchildren: Quinn, Haley, and Colin Moura-Smith; Seth Foster; Samantha Flores; Charlotte and Brooke Smith; Austin Koen; and Christina Stutts and her husband Jeremy Stutts; and two great-great-grandchildren Olivia and Ryen Stutts. We all love you and miss you. The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 22, 2018 from 1-2 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home with funeral services at 2 PM. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
