Milton was born in Clinton, Iowa to John and Florence Petersen on July 6, 1947. He earned a B.S. degree in Agriculture from Iowa State University in 1969 and in 1980 he earned a second degree, in Engineering Technology, from the University of Houston. Most of Milton's career was spent in Houston, working in the oil services industry as an Engineering Technologist.
Milton, "Milt" or "Pete" to his friends, was passionate about God, his church, and his country. He served proudly in the Army and was a Vietnam war veteran. He was a longstanding member of the American Legion. Pete wanted people to know about the love of Jesus, and as a young man he was active in the Home Visit and Evangelism ministries at Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Houston. He later served the congregation of St. Mark's Lutheran Church as an Elder and was a member for over 20 years.
Besides ministry, Pete enjoyed many hobbies. He loved aviation, Civil War history, and travel. He was a 25-year member of the American Society of Metals (ASM) and used his expertise to judge student entries
at Science Fair competitions in the Houston Independent School District. Pete drew upon his agriculture roots to successfully grow pineapples in his backyard. Friends and family could count on news and pictures of the latest crop in his annual Christmas newsletter, The Pineapple Times!
Pete is preceded in death by his father, mother and sister. He will be buried at the Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Dr. Houston, TX 77038. A short Committal Service will be held at 1:45pm on Tuesday, January 23rd.
A Memorial Service celebrating his life will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, January 25th at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, 1515 Hillendahl, Houston, Texas. In lieu of flowers, Pete desired that friends donate to The Salvation Army or the charity of their choice.
