Mrs. Mildred H. “Bobbie” Spillette (née Mildred Gynith Hughes) passed away on December 11, 2024, age 89, at home in Houston, Texas, in hospice care. Family members visited her in the days and hours just prior to her passing.
Bobbie was born on May 18, 1935, in Orange, California, and lived in Southern California and various communities in the Midwest during her youth. She graduated from Lockport High School in Lockport, Illinois, and obtained a Bachelors of Home Economics from Purdue University, where she met her husband, Arthur Gordon Spillette (“Art”). They would be married for 60 years.
After Purdue, Bobbie and Art spent their adult lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Houston, the latter which included a two-year intervening sojourn in Stavanger, Norway. Bobbie was a devoted homemaker and mother, raising two children. She was an avid collector of Hummel figurines and for a time was an active member of a Hummel interest club. She and Art were longtime members of Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston.
Bobbie was preceded in death by her parents, Elliott McKay Hughes and Ruth Davis Hughes, and her sister, Mary Ruth Craig. She is survived by: her son, Steven Spillette of Houston, Texas; her daughter, Susan Spillette of League City, Texas; her granddaughter Brianna Achee of Houston and grandson Steven Spillette of League City; her brother, Elliott McKay Hughes III, and wife Gillian of Gulf Shores, Alabama; and several other extended family members.
The Spillette family extends gratitude to the Right at Home home care agency for the committed and loving caregivers they provided Bobbie in her later years and to Accent Care for the hospice services during her final days.
The family is not scheduling any formal services. In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family suggests a donation to the charity of your choice.
