Mike was born in Jonesboro, Arkansas on August 2, 1955 to Virginia Taylor Kirksey and Jerrel Dean Kirksey and moved to Houston, Texas with his parents and two brothers in 1966 where he would live until his passing.
He graduated from Dobie High School in 1973 and went on to obtain a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Harding University in 1976. He obtained his Texas CPA license shortly thereafter.
He married the love of his life, Debi Kirksey, on December 27, 1976 at Sun Valley Church of Christ in Houston. Together they lovingly and faithfully raised two sons, Ryan and Jason.
Mike acquired many close friends in his lifetime and some of his most cherished memories were with friends on trips to the Indianapolis 500, fishing expeditions, rounds of golf, and travels around the world.
Mike was a giant in the Houston business community and was a recognized leader at all points along his professional journey. His employers included Arthur Anderson, Keystone International, Input/Output, Metals USA, Sirva, Endeavour, Stewart & Stevenson, and W.W. Williams. His work allowed him to spend time living and working in places such as Brussels, Belgium; Chicago, Illinois; and London, England, but he always called Houston his home.
He had a passion for his wife, his children, his grandchildren, his church, and great Mexican food. In his personal and professional life, Mike was foremost a man of never-ending faith and servanthood, acting as an elder, spiritual leader, and Bible class teacher for the Southeast Church of Christ for many years. His legacy of loving and supporting the children of Southeast Church of Christ is one that will be remembered for years to come.
He is survived by his parents; Jerrel and Virginia Kirksey of Houston, his wife, Debi Kirksey of Houston, Texas, children; Ryan Kirksey (Allison) of League City, Texas, Jason Kirksey (Cristen) of Pearland, Texas, brothers; Tim Kirksey of Tyler, Texas, and Terry Kirksey of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and grandchildren; Jordan Kirksey, Jackson Kirksey, Matthew Kirksey, and Madelyn Kirksey.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Southeast Church of Christ Family Ministry at secoc.org (add a memo designating “On behalf of Mike Kirksey”).
