Mike Gibson

Mike was born in Freer, Texas, on December 21, 1935, in a Sun Oil Pipeline camp. The eldest son of Charles and Eloise Gibson, Mike graduated from Snyder High School and attended several colleges in Texas, including Texas Tech. Because his father was with Sun Oil the family moved to lots of cities while Mike was growing up. Following college, he pursued his DDS at the University of Texas Dental School and the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Orthodontics. He practiced orthodontics in Houston for 53 years.

Mike was an avid snow skier, water skier, and he played tennis and golf and he loved to fish. Along with his wife, Peggye Jane, he loved to travel and went to many countries and throughout the United States. Cruising was his favorite! He was a member of the Rotary Club of Houston Heights and served in many offices. He was the youngest ever District 5890 Governor. He was a Rotary International President’s Representative and a member of the Bequest Society. He loved his church, Second Baptist Church, and the Perfect Peace Bible Study Class, and formed many close friendships there. Mike was a Lifetime Committee Member of The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and he chaired the Special Childrens Committee for three years. He and Peggye Jane greatly enjoyed spending time at their ranch in east Texas, and formed friendships there, also.

Mike is predeceased by his first wife, Margaret Gibson. Mike is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Peggye Jane; by daughters, Kelly Gibson and daughter, Rachel; Allison Montgomery and husband, Bart, and their daughter, Morgan; Shannon Gibson; Debbie Autenreith and daughter Ava and son, Mitch; and Betsy Dees. He is also survived by brothers Pat Gibson and Robert Gibson. Many nieces, nephews and cousins will miss Mike. Mike will be remembered for his kindness, generous spirit, compassion, gentleness and humor, and his love for his family and friends. We will all miss him every day until we are reunited with him in Heaven; but thanks be to God Mike is finally in that Heavenly Home.

A memorial service and Celebration of Life will be conducted at Second Baptist Church, 6400 Woodway Drive, Houston, in the Sanctuary, at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, January 15, followed by a reception in the Deacons Parlor.
