Michael Glen Garcia

Michael Glen Garcia, 63, unexpectedly went to be with his Lord & Savior on December 3, 2019. He will be remembered for his faith in God, love for family and unwavering commitment to the funeral industry. Being born in Houston, he grew up in the Denver Harbor area with his parents, Max & Helen Garcia and sister, Maxine. He met the love of his life, Samantha Marie Molina, who he absolutely adored and committed his life to through holy matrimony for over 29 years. They spent the early part of their marriage in the Houston area and resided in Spring for over 17 years. They looked forward to spending time away, walks on the beach, particularly traveling to Israel, Colorado, Florida and South Padres Island. After spending their honeymoon in Maui, they frequently visited the island because he treasured their time there so much. Michael and Samantha welcomed beautiful baby girl, Kimberly, into their lives and made the family complete. Fatherhood was a top priority, along with the many special projects around the house. Being a family man, he knew the importance of work-life balance. He was always there for Kimberly, especially moments in her school years. His loyalty to her created a strong relationship that will enable her to live out his legacy. Her Daddy was the perfect role model and her hero. The newest addition to the family, their bubbly granddaughter Kinley, changed everything and made life perfect. She was so amused by his smile and loved calling on her “Tata” during play time. Michael’s most precious moments were shared with those he loved.

Michael began his career with the Eubanks family at Forest Park Lawndale and led the way as one of the best Funeral Directors during the transition to Service Corporation International. He was entrusted to manage several locations during his tenure, with the first opportunity being at Colonial Funeral Home. Through Houston Hispana, he led vibrant and successful teams at Brookside Funeral Home & Memorial Park. He was instrumental in overseeing the new development of the location in 2011. Brookside was his “baby” and he laid the foundation for others to achieve great things. Michael transferred to Corpus Christi as Market Manager to oversee seven locations. He experienced strong business growth, while responsible for the market. Michael supported multiple Funeraria Del Angel locations when he returned home to Houston to be closer to his family. He continued to support Brookside and later Houston Major-West, before accepting a managing role with Northstar Memorial Group at San Jacinto Funeral Home & Memorial Park. Michael dedicated 35 years to serving others and left a lasting impression on all he encountered.

The incredible knowledge that Michael freely shared with countless individuals substantially impacted the funeral industry, by simply doing what he loved and helping others. Michael was a solid guy to the core, trusted by leadership, a team player, with experience that exceeded most. His excellent sense of humor and positive outlook uplifted everyone around him. There were many “hot-potatoes” that he extinguished. Michael set the example as a diligent leader and supported his teams through engaging in every aspect of operations. Not only was he a co-worker, he was a friend, advisor and confidant that you could rely on. His leadership created lasting personal bonds that will last a lifetime.

Being a sincere Christian, Michael openly shared his faith with others. He was interestingly one-of-a-kind, truly a loving person who showed compassion and touched so many lives without knowing. He attended Berean Baptist Church for over 20 years, where he faithfully served as a deacon. Fellowshipping with others and warmly interjecting his encouraging stories kept friends in his circle entertained. He could always start a conversation by asking, “How about those Stros?!” He was first in line to get merchandise after the Championship. He was always looking for a good value and was known as the "go-to" person for all your electronic needs. Cheesecake brightened his day, he loved desserts and enjoyed a good meal. Michael had a heart of gold and helped everyone. He was always making sure people were safe and secure, with an overabundance of supplies. His work was not just a job, it was a ministry. Michael was exactly what he claimed to be at all times and was such a gentleman. He never complained and would quickly remind you that if a door closes, the Lord will open another one.

His memories will forever be cherished by his loving wife, Samantha Marie Garcia; beautiful daughter, Kimberly Ariel Garcia and companion Kevin Mejia; precious granddaughter, Kinley Mejia; sister, Maxine Vahl and husband Clyde; aunts and uncles: Joe Pulido, Joe Ramirez, Eva Flores, Richard Garcia and wife Betty; nephews: Robert Carrizal and wife Haydee Cantu, Kenneth Carrizal and wife Karina, Michael Ray Carrizal and wife Kathryn; father-in-law, Arturo Molina and wife Irma; mother-in-law, Maria Guzman and husband Rodrigo; sister-in-law, numerous cousins, great nieces and nephews. Michael is preceded in death by his parents, aunts, uncles, brother-in-law and sisters-in-law.

The family will welcome friends from 12:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 13th in the Family Chapel at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. The Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 14th at Berean Baptist Church, 10250 North Freeway, Houston, TX 77037. The procession will conclude at his final resting place in Brookside Memorial Park.
