Michael Wells Dickinson passed away peacefully after a brief illness on April 20, 2023. He was born in Peoria, Illinois to Donald and Darlene Dickinson. Michael was a gentle giant who never met a stranger. His heart was filled with unconditional love and he had a spontaneous sense of humor. Family was very important to him.
His career path included a stay in the Army, HVAC technician working on commercial units, had his own taxi business, and ran a delivery business for the airlines. His passion was electronics. He built and repaired computers and spent his time on his gaming computer. War games were his favorites.
Michael resided in a skilled nursing facility since 2017, as a result of being displaced by Hurricane Harvey. The staff and residents enjoyed his sense of humor. They nicknamed him DJ Mike, as he would take his karaoke machine into the dining room and play music for the staff and residents. He was their favorite bingo caller.
Michael has given the gift of sight by donating his corneas to the Lions Bank.
Michael is preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Darlene Dickinson, brother Richard Jerome Dickinson, son Christopher Dzwonczyk, and niece Allison Marie Lehman. He is survived by his longtime companion of 30 years Shirleen Henry, brother Patrick Dickinson (Paty), sisters Therese Lehman and Cynthia Bradshaw (Donnie), daughter Shannon Marie Bentley (Michael), granddaughter Sadie Raine Bentley, son Jonathan Dzwonczyk, nephew Richard Lehman (Crystal), great nephew Austin Lehman, great niece Alexis Dobbs (Michael), and great-great nephews Nolan and Liam Dobbs.
