A Loving Farewell and Celebration
Meredith Ray Russell, age 92 of Houston, Texas passed away peacefully at home on February 12, 2020. Ray was born in Earlington, Kentucky, the son of Myrtle and Grady Russell on March 25, 1927. Ray served in the U.S. Army in World War II and was a decorated soldier of the Korean War. After serving his country, he worked as a truck driver in the freight line industry until he retired. Ray was a Master Mason and a proud member of the Freemason organization for over 70 years.
Ray enjoyed spending time with his children and rarely turned down breakfast and a piping hot cup of coffee at his favorite diner. He famously adored his pets and never encountered a stray (animal or human) that did not manage to pull on his heartstrings. In his prime, Ray was an avid lover of nature. He was happiest exploring the open road on his Goldwing motorcycle, camping out under the stars and pondering the universe. In his later years, Ray spent his time painting and decorating birdhouses. He was known to bestow a birdhouse or two on just about everyone he knew.
Ray is survived by his children: Ann, Joy, Bill and Helen, Roy and Theada, Lisa and Dido, eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, two nieces and his sister Geraldine Howington.
