Born on January 10, 1933, Melchor, known by his friends and loved ones as "Mel", was raised with strong values of dedication and patriotism. He proudly served in the United States Navy during the Korean War, demonstrating bravery and commitment to his fellow servicemen. His years in the Navy instilled in him a sense of discipline and honor that he carried with him throughout his life.
Mel's academic accomplishments were a testament to his perseverance and intellect. His time at the University of Houston not only enriched his understanding of business principles but also fostered lifelong friendships and memories that he cherished dearly.
In addition to his academic pursuits, Mel had a deep love for the game of golf, which brought him immense joy and relaxation. Whether he was on the course with friends or spending quality time with his family, Mel found solace in the game and created lasting bonds with those who shared his passion.
Those who knew Mel will remember him for his quick wit and infectious sense of humor. He had a knack for brightening the room with his jokes and laughter, bringing smiles to the faces of all who knew him. His lighthearted spirit and warm personality made him a beloved friend to many and a source of comfort to his family.
Mel was survived by son, Jathan Paul Cantu, daughters Jamie Lynn Cantu & Leslie Marie Cantu, granddaughters Sasha Rielle Cantu & Liani Jade Pearson, great-grandson Elijah Dale Pearson, nieces and nephews.
Mel will be deeply missed by his family and all who had the privilege of knowing him. Though he may have left this world, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and his legacy of service, laughter, and love will continue to inspire generations to come.
A visitation for Melchor will be held Tuesday, June 11, 2024 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, June 11, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 6900 Lawndale Street, Houston, TX 77023. A committal service will occur Tuesday, June 11, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale St, Houston, TX 77023.
