Melba Jean Garrett, age 82, of La Porte, Texas, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, June 19, 2016, at her residence. She was born, July 28, 1933 in Rusk, Texas to parents William H. and Ollie M. Jenkins McCann, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death, sister Evelyn Durdin. Melba was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend that will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her daughters: Meloney Renea Garrett and Vickie Ellis; grandsons: Zachery Ellis and Ian Ellis; great-grandsons: Kaleb Ellis and Kagen Ellis; niece Patricia Reece and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
The family will receive friends for a visitation Thursday, June 23, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. until the hour of service at 10:00 a.m. at Brookside Funeral Home in the Family Chapel, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, Texas 77039. An interment will follow in Brookside Memorial Park.
