Melanie Wong

Melanie Wong, age 71, of Kingwood, Texas went peacefully on Friday, April 14, 2023, at her daughter’s home. Melanie Wong was born in Hong Kong, China on October 12, 1951, to father Kwok Choi Lui and mother Wong Soo Keing Lui.

She grew up and attended school in Hong Kong before she moved to the U.S. in 1972. Later, she met her husband, James Wong, and married in Houston, TX on June 24, 1979. Melanie had received her GED from Clear Lake High School and went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from the University of Houston Clear Lake. She was an entrepreneur by heart and had a career as a restaurateur. Melanie loved nature and all of its animals. She enjoyed spending her days cooking, playing mahjong, and gardening; she was awarded the Yard of the Month by the Kingwood Garden Club twice.

She is survived by her husband James Wong, Kingwood, TX; children Veronica Wong, Kingwood, TX, Aaron Wong, Kingwood, TX, and wife Lizeth Wong; siblings Mei and Jack Lew, Lisa and David Lee, May and Edward Chan, and Tammy Lui. She is also survived by Kathy Lew, Kevin Lew, and Stephanie Suvannunt – children of Mei and Jack Lew; Rose, Dale, and Cathy Lee- daughters of Lisa and David Lee; Chana Lui – daughter of Frank Lui; Randall and Edmond Chan - sons of May and Edward Chan, pets Peanut and Coco and granddogs Bunny, Rev, and Choo Choo.

She is preceded by father Kwok Choi Lui; mother Wong Soo Keing Lui; brothers Chee Cheung “Frank” Lui, and Lung Chong “Paul” Lui; nephew Byran Chan and beloved pets Snow White, Daisy, Bella, Pixie, and Ryo.

Serving as the Officiant is Marty Ballesteros. Serving as Pallbearers are Veronica Wong and Michael Shafer, Aaron and Lizeth Wong, Cindy Molina, Honlia Lee and Justin Hao, and Nick Lee, and as Honorary Pallbearers are Jack and Mei Lew, David and Lisa Lee, Nieves and Leo Molina, and Mark Molina.

A visitation for Melanie will be held Friday, April 28, 2023, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A funeral service will occur Saturday, April 29, 2023, from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A graveside service will occur Saturday, April 29, 2023, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, at Brookside Memorial Park, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A Reception will be held Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 1:00pm at Dimassi’s Mediterranean Buffet, 20380 Highway 59 N, Humble, TX 77338.
