Joyce Maxine Myers, 87, better known as “Maxine/Max” to her friends and “Memaw Honey” to her grandchildren, passed away peacefully on Thursday, the 17th of February 2022, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Maxine was born on the 13th of April 1934, in Aransas Pass, Texas, to Bill Phillips and Rhoda Goff.
Maxine was a three-time breast cancer survivor, receiving the Nancy Owens Breast Cancer Foundation Spirit of Courage award in 2011, however according to her, she was never sick day in her life. Breast cancer had such a profound impact on her that she decided to make generous donations to multiple charities such as the Fort Bend Habitat for Humanity, Smile Trane, Doctors without Borders, Wounded Warriors, and of course the Nancy Owens Breast Cancer Foundation.
Maxine had a special magic about her. She was able to light up any room and make friends effortlessly, as she never met a stranger. She loved her family, friends, dancing, traveling, entertaining, and of course her white wine. Maxine was an example of strength and perseverance as she repeatedly demonstrated these strengths throughout her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joe Myers; and her brother, Cecil Phillips. Maxine is survived by three sons, Randy Nini (Gina), Les Nini (James), Larry Nini (Debra Jo); and two daughters, Debera Fontenot (Michael) and Brenda Godosar (Werner). She is also survived by nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
The family is deeply appreciative for the care given to our mother by Jada Gibson, Maritza Pena and Raul Navarro.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from six until eight o’clock in evening on Thursday, the 24th of February, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
A funeral service is to be conducted at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, the 25th of February, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons.
Immediately following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception in the adjacent grand foyer.
The family will gather for a private entombment at Glenwood Cemetery in Houston.
