Maxey "Ken" Kenneth Lovell

Ken was born August 10, 1943, in Wichita Falls, Texas. With a humble upbringing, he was a man who valued the rewards of working hard. At 18 years old, in his wild child days of boat racing and hot rodding, he met the love of his life and his lifetime partner in crime, Becky. Starting as high school sweethearts, they explored all of life’s adventures together, from riding motorcycles to riding horses to traveling the world.

In 1976, he finally found his future in the boat business when he opened Lovell Marine Sales with his father. The very definition of a family man, for 12 years, Ken and his father worked side-by-side daily along with Ken’s mother and his wife. In 1988, Ken was serving his second term as President of the Boating Trade Association of Metropolitan Houston when an unexpected life twist landed him in the Executive Director’s seat. From there Ken began building his legendary status as the driving force of the BTAMH, the lead producer of the largest indoor boat show in the U.S., the voice representing recreational boating in Austin, Washington D.C. and in the media and the hand linking the BTAMH to many other worthy causes. Although he received many awards throughout his career, one of the most meaningful was in 2016 when Ken was awarded the Bill Ferguson Award from the BTAMH for his years of dedication and service, not only to the Houston Boat Show, but to the boating industry as a whole.

In his free time, Ken dedicated himself as a Lifetime Member to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo where he earned his status as a Lifetime Committeeman after serving 30+ years on the Calf Scramble Committee. He also volunteered his time to the Pasadena Livestock Show and Rodeo. He hunted and fished and camped throughout his life. Always an outdoorsman, Ken loved riding horses with his family and friends on numerous trail rides across Texas. No matter if he was riding horseback or driving them from his wagon, he found his true joy out on the trail. But in true Ken fashion, he also enjoyed riding his motorcycle on the open roads, wind through his hair, Becky by his side, across miles of scenic Texas. No matter when or where, Ken knew how to bring fun and joy to his family and friends across all the areas of his life.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Maxey and Ruth Lovell.

But he will be waiting on the other side for those he leaves behind. His wife, Becky Lovell, married for 58 years, they stuck together through all of life’s trials and celebrations unto the end. His sister, Sharon, will miss their daily talks until they can meet again. His daughter Lynette and her husband Chad, and his son Kenny and his wife Nikki. His children will honor his memory by continuing his endeavor of making the Houston Boat Sport and Travel Show the best show in the country, continually moving it forward. He will forever watch over his grandchildren Jacob, Keegan, and Jordyn, and so many other loved family members.
