James Maurice Robison passed away suddenly on Friday, the 10th of June 2016, of complications from pneumonia and CLL. He was born in Big Spring, Texas, on the 18th of July 1943, to Jesse and Zora Robison. Soon after, the family moved to Fort Worth, Texas, where Maurice spent the majority of his youth.
Following his graduation from Carter Riverside High School in Fort Worth, Maurice attended Baylor University for one semester before transferring to The University of Texas at Austin to study Architecture. He joined the Beta Chapter of Phi Delta Theta, where he met many lifelong friends. While at UT, Maurice met and married the love of his life, his partner for nearly fifty years, Sandra Duckworth Robison. At UT, Maurice earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture, which led to a successful career as a principal, team leader and specialist in health care facility innovations, design and construction. Upon graduation, he joined the Texas National Guard, 82nd Airborne Division, where he became a Second Lieutenant. Maurice culminated his career serving ten years as Vice President Healthcare Principal at HDR, Inc. managing and developing HDR’s Houston office. Maurice provided services to every significant member of the Texas Medical Center of Houston and throughout the U.S., the Middle East, the Pacific and South America on projects that ranged from Gulf Coast Veterinary Clinic to the new state-of-the-art Jennie Sealy Hospital at UTMB in Galveston, Texas.
Maurice's family was his number one priority, friendship a close second with an active outdoor lifestyle right behind. Maurice combined all three while hunting in South Texas, skiing, fly fishing, hiking, snowshoeing and snowmobiling frequently in Colorado, golfing and attending yoga classes at Houston Country Club where he was a member, and attending his grandchildren’s athletic and other events-always with family and friends. He also contributed his architectural skills to his family and friends, planning high alpine mountain homes outside Telluride and the award winning design that allowed Augusta Becks Prime to preserve the four hundred year old oak tree.
Maurice’s welcoming and contagious smile along with his positive demeanor will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Sandra; son, Chase Robison and his wife Beth Schulze Robison of Houston; daughter, Emily Robison Greer and her husband Matt Greer of Austin; and four wonderful grandchildren whom he adored, Braxton and Kate Robison and Ellie and Witt Greer.
The memorial service is to be conducted at four o’clock in the afternoon on Tuesday, the 14th of June, in the Sanctuary of St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 3471 Westheimer Road in Houston. Immediately following, friends are invited to greet the family during a reception in the nearby Fellowship Hall.
