Mary Glenn Yeager Smith, 95, of Houston Texas died August 18, 2014. Mary Glenn, daughter of Maurice Vincent and Golda Glenn Yeager and wife of Martin Robert Smith, passed away after a long journey with cancer. She is survived by her daughter Mary Anne Isaksson and son Martin Robert Smith, Jr. Mary Glenn graduated from Purdue University in 1941 and worked for the Indiana and Michigan Electric Company in South Bend, Indiana 1941-42, until she began a long association with the National Dairy Council. She became executive director of the Dairy Council of Evansville, Indiana; moved to Tulsa, Oklahoma with the Dairy Council where she met her husband Martin. His company moved their offices to New York City and Mary Glenn and Martin raised their two children in Northern New Jersey. When the children were old enough to take care of themselves Mary Glenn went back to work. After a short period with a food sales company she resumed her career with the National Dairy Council organizing the Northern New Jersey office and serving as Executive Director. During this period she also attained her Master’s Degree in Business Administration from New York University (NYU), was Ways and Means Chairman of the Junior League of Newark, NJ in 1958, a member of the board of the Newark Female Charitable Society, President of the Forest Avenue Home and School association 1959-61, President of the New Jersey Home Economics Association and a member of the American Public Health association, the New Jersey Dietetics Association, the New Jersey Nutrition Council and Kappa Delta Pi. In 1970 Mary Glenn moved with her husband to Houston Texas where she retired from the Dairy Council and began an active volunteer life. She was a docent for the Houston Audubon Society Edith Moore Nature Sanctuary, the Houston Symphony, Houston Ballet, Houston Grand Opera and Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and was a member of the Houston Calligraphy Guild. She was Regent of the John McKnitt Alexander Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a registered genealogy volunteer. In her 60’s she crewed on a Hot Air Balloon team! As a member of St. Martin’s Episcopal Church she was a member of Daughters of the King, Docent Guild and Lydia’s Guild. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Services will be at St. Martin’s Episcopal Church, 717 Sage Road, Houston, Texas, Tuesday, August 26th at 2pm.
