Mary Shirley Rosignon, age 92, was born on December 24, 1928, to Rose Belle Metoyer of Melrose “Cane River,” Louisiana and George Harleaux of New Orleans, Louisiana. She was the eldest of two children. God called her home on September 7, 2021.
As a young girl, Mary, affectionally known as “Shirley” loved playing with her brother at home in Melrose, Louisiana, and along Cane River. Her family were parishioners at St. Augustine Catholic Church on Cane River. Seeking employment opportunities, her family moved to Houston, Texas. Shirley graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School and Business School in Houston, Texas. This is where she met and fell in love with Oneslie Rosignon, Jr.
On July 16, 1950, Shirley and Oneslie were United in Holy Matrimony at Our Mother of Mercy Catholic Church in Houston, Texas. To this union two daughters were born, Rosemarie Rosignon Roy and June Elizabeth Rosignon Ledet.
Shirley’s early employment years were in the healthcare field. In 1961, she and Oneslie opened their own business, Rosignon Service Center, in Houston, Texas. In 1977, they opened a second business, R.A.E. Auto Parts. They owned and operated both businesses until their retirement in 1993.
Shirley was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was involved in everything concerning her daughters, Rose and June. She always volunteered at their school and church activities or functions. Shirley and Oneslie enjoyed hosting holidays in their home, zydeco dancing, traveling, especially taking trips in their motor home. Shirley and Oneslie were married for 63 years at the time of his death in 2013. After Oneslie’s passing, Shirley moved to Humble, Texas. She became a parishioner at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Humble, Texas.
Shirley was affectionately known to her grandchildren and great grandchildren as “Maw-Maw”. Shirley was equally involved in their lives and attended their school and extracurricular activities. Her family was everything to her. Shirley enjoyed spending time with her family and to speak with them on her Alexa device, FaceTime or view videos of them on her tablet. Also, she enjoyed watching TV, especially a good Western Movie and America’s Funniest Videos.
