Mary graduated from Jeff Davis High School and worked as a young woman as a clerk for Stuart Title Company and later in life worked in the Catalog Pick-Up at Sears and then for Cameron Iron Works in the purchasing department where she retired. Mary was a lifelong Christian and long-time member of Spring Branch Presbyterian Church. She was an avid reader, bridge player, traveler, and sports enthusiast. She had a particular love for the Astros and the Houston Oilers. Mary could be described as honest, genuine, loving, kind, and faithful. She had a wit and humor that would often surprise people. Her biggest life accomplishment was creating a family that all enjoys and loves each other.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, L.H. Powell, parents Sallie May Randall Warring Davenport and Jack Henry Warring, stepfather S.C. “Chester” Davenport, newborn sister Elizabeth Ann Warring, brother Jerry Raymond Warring and newborn great-grandson Ashton.
She is survived by her children Richard Powell, daughter-in-law Deborah Powell, Paul Powell and wife Patricia, and Lisa Williams and husband Michael, and her grandchildren Michele Lovell (Ryan), Lindsay Bird (Scott), Courtney Miller (Randal), Lauren Thompson (Joseph), Travis Powell, Stephanie Eggleston (Thomas), Erica Josey (Daniel), Evan Williams (Alyssa), and Brooke Stubbs (Austin). She is also survived by her stepsister Jeanne Davenport-Wedemeier and sisters-in-law Darlene Warring and Needra Powell and numerous nieces and nephews. She adored her great-grandchildren Ryder, Makenzie, River, Jimmy, Jackson, Reagan, Tyler, Amelia, Brave, Juliet, Brayden, Olivia, and Sage, and was awaiting another great-,grandbaby due this December.
A visitation for Mary will be held Wednesday, September 20, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, Texas 77079. A funeral service will occur Thursday, September 21, 2023, at 2 p.m., 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, Texas 77079. A graveside service will occur Thursday, September 21, 2023, at 3 p.m. at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Fwy, Houston, Texas 77079.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Research of Shriners Hospital or some similar organization.
